My name is Jerry Sullivan, a 59 60 year old native of Cape Cod. I’ve shared my world for the last 30 or so years with my soulmate and best friend who is also very shy so I’m just going to refer to her as “M”. (no, I’m not 007). We have two lovely daughters, and a teenage granddaughter.
We share our home with Monty. a very spoiled and very loved, Bull Terrier (ie. Spuds McKenzie). Monty came to us through Bull Terrier rescue when he was 14 months old. He rules the roost with an iron, yet loving paw and could be the subject of his own blog.
I’m going to devote most of this blog to my Journey through life with Melanoma. From time to time I may stray a bit. Most of you who will read this blog will already know the basic facts about Melanoma. Some of you however may be among those with the impression that “it’s only skin cancer.” I hope that you take just a few minutes to learn a little bit more about the danger. It may literally save yours’ or a loved one’s life!
For the record I have melanoma, Stage IV with mets on my adrenal gland, small intestine, lungs (one each), brain – 6 of measurable size and numerous “floaters”. A met in my spinal column at C3 was treated with radiation and presumed gone. I am a participant in a medical trial that will be explained on other topic pages. I’m termed “stable” or “stable with some reduction” since the starting the trial.
Before I go much further I like most others with cancer am not a VICTIM. I am a person fighting an illness. I do not mind sharing my story. JOKE with me, LAUGH with me, CRY with me, TALK with me, TOUCH my life, but never PITY me. Ask me questions and I’ll share with you my experiences and give you information that will allow you to find out more about melanoma and other skin cancers. Become a crusader to help stop this very preventable disease.
No one should have to live with Melanoma. It’s an insidious killer BEAST. Hope, however, is on the horizon with new treatments being announced and tested. My thanks and prayers go out to all the Warriors and Angels who through their selfless participation in medical trials and protocols have brought a brighter outlook to the future.
To the researchers, doctors, nurses and technicians who are fighting for us my blessings and thanks for your talents, understanding and caring.
Finally, this blog is dedicated to Uncle John, my godfather and a melanoma warrior and my special angel.
Jerry
